January  2003 - You are the Ref

  1. The two teams are wearing clearly contrasting kit – blue shirts and white shorts, red shirts and black shorts, both with white socks. Is there a problem? 

  2. You are restarting play with a dropped ball near the touch line. The ball hits a ridge and goes straight out of play. What do you do next? 

  3. In a local league game the visitors have only eight players at the scheduled kick-off time. They argue that it is too few for the game to start. What do you do?

  4. Part way through the second half you are forced to abandon a game because of fog when one team is four goals up. Do you award them the game?

  5. At a penalty shoot-out, the inactive goalkeeper is standing at the junction of the goal area and goal line as the kicker prepares to shoot. Do you allow him to stay there?
