(referees should know all the answers)

Sept 2003 - You are the ref

  1. A player commits a number of fouls, none of which is sufficiently serious to merit a caution, what sanction can you use?
  2. What offence is committed if a player grasps an opponent’s shirt (except in the World Cup!)?
  3. A cautionable foul is committed but you allow a clear advantage which results in a goal.  Can you still caution the offending player and show the yellow card?
  4. An injured player successfully treated off the pitch indicates his wish to return.  When do you allow him back on?
  5. A player commits a sending-off offence before the kick-off.  You show him the red card and do not allow him to take part in the game.  His captain nominates one of the named substitutes to play instead.  Do you agree?
